Overview
The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) uses a 5-year certification cycle with a focus on MyEMCert modules and Longitudinal Learning Self-Assessment (LLSA) tests. Upon renewal to the 5-year cycle, annual fees cover module costs.

MyEMCert Modules

- FREE module access included as added benefit after renewal
LLSA (Longitudinal Learning Self-Assessment)
LLSA tests provide ongoing self-assessment:
- 4 tests required within each 5-year cycle
- Available free to diplomates
- Ongoing assessment of clinical knowledge
- Flexible completion throughout certification period
Improvement in Medical Practice (IMP)
- Required once every 5 years
- Demonstrates quality improvement in practice setting
- Must document actual practice improvement
Professional Standing Requirements
- Compliance with ABEM's Code of Professionalism
- Current medical licensure required
- Continuous maintenance throughout certification
