Overview

The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) uses a 6-year continuing certification cycle with annual participation in all four parts. Year 6 has different requirements than Years 1-5, with either a Performance Pathway or computer-based exam.

Four-Part Structure

All diplomates must complete all four parts annually:

Part II: Lifelong Learning & Self-Assessment

Annual requirements vary by certification type:

Part III: Knowledge Assessment

  • Years 1-5: Answer 60 knowledge gap questions in areas of practice/interest
  • Year 6 Options:
    • Performance Pathway (if eligible) — Exemption from exam
    • Computer-Based Exam (if ineligible) — $1,750 fee

Part I: Professional Standing

  • Submit medical license(s) if requested
  • Outpatient practice attestation if requested
  • Annual requirement (same all 6 years)

Part IV: Quality Improvement

  • Start and complete one QI activity per year
  • Ongoing throughout 6-year cycle

Performance Pathway

Year 6 streamlined option:

  • Available in lieu of exam for eligible diplomates
  • Eligibility criteria determine access
  • Alternative assessment method

Tips for ABOG MOC

  • Start early in the year — November 15 deadline is firm
  • Track all four parts — Annual completion required
  • Know your Year 6 pathway — Performance Pathway or exam
  • Pay by August 15 — Avoid $50 late fee
  • CME fees are non-refundable — Plan accordingly

Diplomate Responsibilities

  • Review all deadlines and payment schedules
  • ABOG not obligated to notify of impending deadlines
  • Must remain informed of current requirements
  • All fees paid via credit card through ABOG website
