Overview

The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) uses a 5-year MOC cycle with a four-part component structure. Newly certified pediatricians are automatically enrolled, and subspecialists receive one year added to their existing cycle.

MOC Requirements

Four-part structure required during each 5-year cycle:

Part 1 Professional Standing Licensure and professional conduct
Part 2 Lifelong Learning CME and self-assessment activities
Part 3 Assessment MOCA-Peds or proctored exam
Part 4 Quality Improvement QI project participation

MOCA-Peds Assessment

MOCA-Peds is the primary assessment option:

  • Online assessment program for Part 3 requirement
  • Included in MOC enrollment payment
  • Alternative: Proctored examination at secure testing center ($265 additional)

ABP Portfolio

Secure online platform for:

  • View specific MOC cycle dates
  • Track completed requirements
  • View fees and exams
  • Submit payments online (credit card/debit card only; checks not accepted)
  • Access MOC activities

Key Deadlines

  • Mid-December — Enrollment deadline for next 5-year cycle (for those in final year)
  • Individual deadlines — Check ABP Portfolio for your specific dates
  • Continuous participation — Required throughout 5-year cycle

Newly Certified Subspecialists

  • Automatically enrolled in MOC
  • One year added to existing MOC cycle upon subspecialty certification
  • No additional enrollment required
