Overview

The Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine regulates physicians and PAs on a birth month-based biennial cycle. Maine has a unique jurisprudence exam requirement every other renewal cycle (approximately every 4 years). Detailed CME hour requirements are contained in Board Rules Chapters 1 and 2. For reinstatement after lapse, 40 Category I credits in the prior 24 months are required.

Tips for Maine Licensees

  1. Birth month renewal — Your deadline is the last day of your birth month
  2. Jurisprudence exam — Don't forget this every-other-cycle requirement
  3. Consult Board Rules — Chapters 1 and 2 have the detailed CME specifications
  4. PAs: Two board options — Can be licensed by either medical or osteopathic board
  5. Reinstatement = 40 hours — Need Category I credits if license lapsed
